Siri Print World was started in Palakollu in 2008 as the retail counter of Siri Varahi Flex. The founder still quotes every offset job and supervises the press personally, and is reachable on the shop number during working hours.
How the shop started
Siri Print World began in 2008 with a single flex machine, printing shop banners for businesses along the main road in Palakollu. The personalised side of the business, frames, mugs, albums, keychains, grew out of customers asking whether the same machines could put a family photograph on something other than a banner. They could, and that half of the shop has grown every year since.
What has not changed
Nothing goes on a machine without the customer approving a proof first. Prices are quoted before the job, not after it. And if we think you are ordering the wrong material for where a banner is going, we say so, losing a six-rupee-per-square-foot upgrade is better than a customer whose banner tore in the first monsoon wind. Those three rules have been the same since the first year.
What we have learned in seventeen years
That a wedding card proof needs two people from the family to read it independently. That coastal wind eats cheap flex, and 440gsm with wind slits costs a little more and lasts three times as long. That a photograph sent through WhatsApp has been compressed to a tenth of its size and will print blocky at six feet. That the donor list on a temple board always changes after printing, so it should be printed last. Most of what we tell customers is a mistake we have already paid for once.
