Things worth knowing before a sitting
- Come after a feed and a nap for a newborn shoot. Ninety percent of how a newborn session goes is decided before anybody touches a camera, and no amount of studio skill recovers a hungry baby.
- Bring the original print for restoration, never a phone photograph of it. We scan at 1200dpi. A phone picture of a damaged photo keeps every fault, adds glare, and bends the edges through lens distortion.
- Wear a mid tone colour for anything against a white background. White and very pale shirts make the shoulders disappear into the backdrop, and some document verification systems flag the incomplete outline.
- Colourising a black and white photograph is an interpretation, not a recovery. We do it with the family present so the skin tone, the shirt colour and the background are theirs rather than our guess.
