The question we get asked most across the counter is which material to pick, and the honest answer depends less on budget than on which wall the frame is going on. Acrylic is the safest choice for most homes here. It is printed directly onto 5mm cast acrylic with UV-cured inks, so there is no glass to crack in transit, no mount board to yellow, and nothing that absorbs moisture. In coastal humidity that matters more than it does inland, we have replaced enough warped MDF frames from houses near the canal to be confident about it.
MDF frames, the classic, matte, glitter and hearts-effect range, are the value option and the one families buy in sets for a gallery wall. They are perfectly good on an interior wall that stays dry. Keep them off a wall that shares a surface with a bathroom or an outside face, and keep them out of direct afternoon sun. Canvas sits somewhere between: the texture of 380gsm cotton canvas is forgiving on older scanned photographs, which is why we recommend it for grandparents' portraits where the original print has softened.
Size is the other decision people underestimate. An 8×12 inch frame that looks generous on a phone screen disappears on a twelve-foot wall. As a rough guide, a frame should occupy about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it, and a group of small frames reads better than one medium one if the wall is wide. Bring a photo of the wall to the shop and we will tell you what size to order, it costs us nothing and saves you a return.
Whatever you choose, the photograph matters more than the material. Send the original file rather than a copy that has been through WhatsApp, which compresses images to roughly a tenth of their size. Our editor warns you before checkout if the file is too small for the size you picked, and if we spot a problem after you order, we call you before printing rather than after.
Frequently asked questions
Which is better, acrylic or MDF photo frames?
Acrylic for durability, humidity resistance and colour depth, it is printed on 5mm cast acrylic with no glass to break. MDF is cheaper and perfectly good on a dry interior wall, which is why most gallery-wall sets are MDF. Near the coast we recommend acrylic.
What size photo frame should I order?
A frame should be roughly two-thirds the width of the furniture below it. 8×12 inch suits a study or bedside; 12×18 inch is the most common living-room size; 16×24 inch and above for a feature wall. Send us a photo of the wall and we will advise.
What photo resolution do I need for a wall frame?
At least 1500×2000 pixels up to 12×18 inch. For 16×24 inch and larger, send the original from the camera or phone gallery. Send it through WhatsApp as a document, not as an image, or it gets compressed.
Do the frames come ready to hang?
Yes. Acrylic frames ship with steel standoff bolts, MDF frames have a keyhole slot on the back, and gallery sets include a paper template so you can mark the wall before drilling.
Can I return a personalised photo frame?
Not for a change of mind, since it is made only for you. If it arrives damaged or the print is defective, send a photo within 48 hours and we replace it free.
How long does delivery take?
5 to 7 days across India, free of charge. Extra-large acrylics take 7 to 10 days. In Palakollu you can collect from our shop at Peddagopuram Main Road, often within the week.
Do you install large frames?
Within about 40km of Palakollu we deliver and install extra-large acrylic frames ourselves. Beyond that they ship with fixings and a drilling template.
Can I frame a photo the same day in Palakollu?
Yes in the standard sizes we keep mounted stock for, which covers 8 by 12 and 12 by 18 inch in the classic and matte ranges. Acrylic frames above 12 by 18 inch need a full working day.
What is the difference between canvas and acrylic frames?
Canvas is printed on cotton fabric stretched over a wooden frame and has a visible texture that softens older photographs. Acrylic is printed edge to edge on a solid sheet with no glass. Acrylic survives coastal humidity better, canvas is kinder to a grainy original.
Not sure which to choose?
Send us the photo and tell us where it is going. We will tell you which material and size to order, including when the cheaper option is the right one.
